Injury Rehabilitation PDF Print E-mail

Injury prevention and rehabilitation are one of the most key aspects in an athlete's physical training.  Injury prevention, or what Pat Etcheberry likes to call "injury prehab" focuses on the outlook that it is much easier to prevent an injury than to rehabilitate one.  Athletes must be in tune with the proper functioning of their bodies and knowing the signals of when and if the body has become overworked.  If athletes do come to training with an injury, or experience one in a game or competition, then the trainers will continue to work the muscle and also to train the muscles surrounding the injury.

The most common injuries in sports performance are sprains to the knee or ankle. Because of certain quick changes in direction, stress is added to these joints.  Activities such as balance exercises are a great way to slowly rehabilitate these damaged joints. The stabilized muscles become strengthened and this protects the joint from future damage and injuries.  It is important to keep working that area to get blood flow in the muscle so that it will continue to heal.  At times, it is absolutely necessary and vital to rest, but the experienced trainers at Etcheberry Sports will work around the injury, allowing the player to continue to get a full body workout.
