In order to effectively train to gain speed, an athlete's exercise routine must involve what is known as acceleration training.  Acceleration training is working on first-step quickness and maximizing the effect of short, small movements.  This type of training focuses on generating speed and explosiveness in an athlete's body.  To achieve top speed, optimal force is applied to the ground to overcome the initial inertia of the body to the ground, and this involves a great deal of power and strength within the player. 

Pat Etcheberry and his skilled team train this area by developing strength and power in the athlete's hips, glutes, and core; therefore, acceleration training is closely related to strength training, and less to body conditioning.  Through the training with Etcheberry Sports Performance, athletes will be taught the appropriate and most effective way to get to their top speed in the fastest way possible.
