Fitness Element Training

Junior tennis student practices agility drills while at Etcheberry Sports.Fitness training for athletes involves many different factors that affect overall performance.  It is necessary to develop and maintain all areas of fitness and Pat Etcheberry and his team are here to coach you every step of the way. Keeping up with each element of training in a regular fitness routine should be your focus and will promote better overall health.

The first element of fitness training is aerobic exercise. Aerobic exercise enables the body to maximize the amount of oxygen in the blood in order to become more efficient at producing energy. Aerobic fitness promotes a healthier heart, lungs, and blood vessels and uses large muscle groups to do so. Pat will guide athletes through this element of training through a series of drills and exercises designed specifically for the needs of each athlete.

The second element of fitness training is muscular fitness. This includes strength training to increase bone strength and gain muscle mass. To improve muscular fitness, various exercises can be done with tools such as free weights, machines, and resistance bands, in which Pat will oversee. In muscular fitness, muscles gradually become overloaded so as to promote more strength within the body.

Third, an athlete must consider the importance and necessity of stretching and mobility work. By allowing the body to stretch, the athlete will improve posture, joint health, blood circulation and muscle flexibility. Different types of stretching will be utilized before and after exercising. With each stretch, it is important to remember to try to exceed previous flexibility capabilities with correct breathing and slow movements.

Junior tennis students practice lateral movements under tension at Etcheberry Sports. The fourth element of fitness is maintaining a stable core. The core refers to the abdominal region, lower back, and pelvis muscles. With core exercises, an athlete is able to manipulate the ability to connect upper and lower body movements, and transfer power between the two.  Increasing the strength, stability and explosiveness of the core while maintaining a healthy spine is our goal here at ESP.

Finally, it is important to remember the significance of balance in fitness element training. Balance affects every area of the body and can make or break an athlete's game. It also prevents injuries and helps athletes to rehabilitate if they do have an injury. Through these exercises and the aid of Pat Etcheberry, athletes of any performance level will surely improve their fitness levels.
